How to ged rid of GUI X Login

Its been a number of years since Ive used any form of *nix. I decided to set up a small box today and after the install realized that FDC5 takes you straight into X gui logon. I was wondering how to disable this for the future. I just wish to use plain old text login and use startx command whenever I plan on using x.

Just for others if they need the help to the question. You edited /etc/inittab file correct? Then edit the line id:5:initdefault: to id:3:initdefault:
