How to edit the Fedora DVD to check which file is corrupt

Dear All!

I have another question for u people. Once I have problem that i downloaded Fedora DVD and its corrupted as SHA1SUM shows. Now how can i edit or check which RPMS are bad so i can replace them by downloading indivually so i dont have to download full DVD as i have low bandwidth available here.

I don't think you can. You have to install the packages before you can verify them.

If you run the installer - it may stop with an error at a particular stage, this will tell you which package has been corrupted ... others close to it will probably be damaged too. Remaster the DVD, and repeat?

It's probably easier to just download again.
I used an internet cafe to download the FC4 dvd iso.

Well I dont agree with U. I am in Pakistan and there are normally not high speed links. So it is not possible in Net Cafe.

Although there are some FTP clients which may compare destination and source destination files and then download the remaining portions which is corrupt in my download.

Please anyone know about this than write to me..... Also i am talking abt the fedora DVD ISO.

That is good info to put in your profile.

There was one [a DSL cyber cafe] in the Jinnah Supermarket in Islamabad - Chowk? (Checks) Yep - seems it's still there...
Dosn't StarPRO (satellite broadband marketed at cafes) service a large chunk of Pakistan?

However: I believe the client you are looking for is "bittorrent". Downloads the iso in bits, checking the integrity of each individually.

Lahore - very big, old, lots of big old buildings, the Ravi is pretty at night - has one of the best cyber cafes in the world - PINKGENIE, (14G Marhaba Tower, Kareem Block, Allama Iqbal Town) I don't know if it's still there.

There are lots of broadband cybercafes in Lahore - mostly tucked in odd corners.

Bittorrent is reputed to be a more reliable way of getting iso's.
The only way I can think of to check the files on a CD is to try installing each of the rpms manually... the one that spits out an error is the one broken. (I don't knoe if rpm -V will work on rpm files not installed, could be worth a try.)

If anaconda will run, try a minimum install (possibly to a test partition) - then add additional packages after. With luck, the minimum install will work regardless of the failed integrity and the corrupt parts won't be things you need.

Thing is, it is unlikely to be so simple as groups of corrupt files. More likely to be whole chunks of scrambled data across the whole disk. Have fun.

Well this seems to be good solution but The problem is while running annaconda the system restart before installing anything......

then anaconda or the install image is the corrupt part.
Sorry. Pretty much anything else you could fix.

In principle you could obtain anaconda seperately (it is open source after all) and ten remaster the dvd with a new anaconda of your own. The scope for messing this up is huge.

There is a third option: use a linux users group near you - a member will likely be only too happy to lend a good DVD to the deserving. I have found two LUGs with Lahore addresses, here they are: http://lugww.counter.li.org/groups.cms?&cc=PK&rc=PU
Fossfp LUG and Pakistan LUG

It is a great idea to join both, subscribe to their mailing lists, and attend the meetings of the local group. I don't know anybody in either of them, so I cannot help with introductions. Sorry.
