How to check ISO image before burning

Hi all,

I downloaded Fedora Core 12 x86_64 DVD ISO image.
I need to check the integrity before burning in to DVD.

I found the page which instructs me How to do that but I didn't understand what it says.

please tell me how to check the integrity ?
and I'm also curious to know the details present in it so can any one please simplify it and tell me what it says ?

Thanks in advance

The instructions seem pretty straight forward, what part don't you understand?

Unless you are trying to verify from a Windows machine?

The iso file you have download has a checksum it is mentioned by the file you have download.
A lot of burning Application gives you a checksum before before burning .
Both checksum should be the same .
If they are not don't use the file .
The purpose of the checksum fore you is to check if file you download is OK.

Checksum is not dependent on any kind of keys.

1. Go to http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/index.htm and download HashCalc which is a GUI based checksum generator
2. Try checking the ISO file by HashCalc
3. If the MD5/SHA1 string provided in the Fedora website matches the one generated by HashCalc, that confirms the integrity of the downloaded ISO

Hope this helps.
