How to build grub with grub-fedora-8.patch

When I apply grub-fedora-8.patch to the source directory from the tarball in the f8 srpm (grub 0.97), several files are patched and the configure script disappears. I can then pull the configure script from the tarball again and run it within the patched source directory and it will complete successfully. However, when I try to run make, it fails. Since the configure script disappears upon patching, I am not absolutely positive I should be using it (hence no included output in this post). If I don’t apply the script, grub compiles fine. Can anyone point me toward any information on how grub is supposed to be compiled after the f8 patch is applied? Thanks.

scroll down and see if you can d/load it.

as its a source rpm it should install on any main rpm package systems (your results may vary)

My issue is actually a known bug with the memory handoff to xen kernels on ami bioses. I patched the grub-0.97 with only the patch for that specific bug and compiled in order to overcome the bug, so my system is working fine. I just prefer to do things "proper" or whatever, in case there is any good reason some given fedora patch was applied (something more important than the graphical menu, such as compatibility with something else native to Fedora or a bug that could expose the system to a security threat). I could try the mandriva patch, but I'm not sure there would be any good reason to. so basically I'm trying to figure out specifically what is up with Fedora's patch. Thanks, though.
