how to add modprobe at boot

I would like to add "modprobe cdc-acm" to get my usb modem working.
I can do this manually as root but have forgotten where to insert this command to make it happen automatically at boot.

It doesn't work if I add it to /etc/modprobe.conf. There is a script somewhere but I can't remember where.

Can anybody help with this one?

John.

What distribution are you using? In SuSE the file you want is /etc/modprobe.conf.local

If posting in a Fedora forum, I'm guess he's using either FC1 or FC2 (but FC1 used modules.conf).
For '/etc/modprobe.conf' try the following line (at the end):

postinstall usb-controller modprobe cdc-acm

This should try and load the usb modem after the usb-controller is loaded.

-OR-
Edit '/etc/rc.local' and add at the end:

/sbin/modprobe cdc-acm

Thanks,
The first option doesn't work, producing repeated error messages at boot (bad command).
The /etc/rc.local option was the one which worked before, so I'll use it again.
Many thanks,
John.
