How do I partition my hd using parted?

I need to install Fedora onto my computer for a class. My computer runs on W2k. I Know that before I install, I have to partition my hd. I can't use FIPF utility since my file system is NFTS. Linux have a utility call parted, but I don't know how to use it. The book tells me to download some files onto a disk in order to run the utility at startup. I did it, but it won't boot. It said something like "NTLD is missing". I know there is a program called Partition Magic, but I don't want to spend money.
Can someone help me please?

"I need to install Fedora onto my computer for a class."

The Fedora includes a partition program that is every bit as good as Partition Magic if not better. So don't spend any money on Partition Magic. Do the partitioning as the first part of the Fedora install.

When I installed Fedora, I got stuck at the partition screen. It says I don't have enough free space when I actually have 8 gig. It won't let me do anything.
