How do I get add/remove packages app to use local RPM's instead of CDs?

Hi All !!

My very first post to this board.

As my desire to not add to B.Gates' coffers grows daily, I'm dusting off my Linux hat and giving it another go. I've tinkered with previous versions and found them beyond my skill set to get them to entirely replace my MS Server 2003 system.

I've got FC4 up and running (K12LTSP to be exact) by installing from my web server (sweet!). I then copied all the RPMs to the local machine.

Here's the question, How do I tell the Add/Remove Packages app to look for the RPS locally instead of asking for the original CD's?

Looking forward to the adventure !

Thanks a ton,

Taylor

Once installed you have two options:

If you installed the development RPM package for rpms then you can do the following:

uninstall rpm

rpm -e package name

Install an RPM

rpm -ivh package name

Yum makes installing and uninstalling packages a breeze:

yum install package name

yum remove package name

Now you can install yumex for a gui

yum install yumex

If you uninstall or install a fair amount of rpms then

you can use yum to install the local packages, open the rpms directory and run:
yum localinstall *.rpm
if you want single packages write the name of packages, yum will also resolve the dependencies.
