Now that I have cooled down a bit after writing the following let me preface the following with I have been working with computers since the Digital PDP-8L in high school (if you know what that is then you know about how old I am!) I used to program in ones and zeros and could speak machine language. I love DOS. I've had Windows since 1.1. I've installed FC4 on two computers and have been trying it out for a week or two on and off. Maybe Windows has dulled the brain or I'm just getting old and don't want to fool around with nonsense anymore....

Ok, this is MY flippin laptop. I am not on a network and don't need or want any network utilities. I am not keeping a secret shocking diary, I'm not hiding child porn, I'm not keeping nuclear secrets and I am not an Al Queda operative! I just want to turn on my system, get a beer and have it up and waiting for my comands when I get back. I want to access and edit my "file system" with no frilling questions asked! How can I install FC4 with out the all the Goophy Geekie Dweebee user/password and network cr@p?

what on earth is "network crap" ??? you might be a dos fan, but netowrking is hardly crap ever... if you want to deliberatly learn to do things wrong, just delete root's password by running "passwd -d" as root...

You can configure the login screen to login a particular user, you, automatically, thus skipping the login screen alltogether. Hat-> desktop-> system settings-> login screen hope this huhelps

acid_kewpie; Thank you for your "understanding" but there isn't a network within ten miles of my laptop, so anything network related installed on it that is taking up resources is absolutely superfluous "crap." I find several menu selections for configuring and administrating networks installed. From your reaction I surmise you must be a network administrator!
