help with gnome-terminal, please?

GNome-terminal, my favorite, doesn't sign on at all. There's no "prompt" line although the terminal opens just fine. I cannot type anything to it. Konsole, xterm, all the others work fine. Now, IF I start gnome-terminal as root, all is well. This MAYBE tells me something is screwed in my "preferences", or settings. I would love to rename this, and start over. Help me FIND these, please?

Maybe dig around in the terminals preferences and you can find the problem. Never had a problem of this type before.

Me either. I did try to return to the default prefs, no help there. Thanks.

Well, let's tie the ribbons on this for others. FINALLY, I hit the combination in "preferences" that recovered the terminal to a normal state. Strangely, I began putting back all the things I had changed, and the trouble did not re-appear. I don't know, but, if it does this again, it IS the preferences combinations that causes it.
