Help with bug fix to upgrade to kernel 2.6.14

Hi everyone,

I have upgraded my kernel to 2.6.14 and KDE 3.5. After doing so, I could not log back in to the desktop. On a previous post, I was kindly guided to the fact that this is a known bug "KDGKBSENT" (not sure if it is a but in the new kernel or KDE). The apparent fix for this is in downloading and installing kbd-1.12-12.1. However, in trying to do so I get a complaint of missing dependencies which I know I already have installed, namely libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4). This error also shows up during boot and loads the legacy fonts.

Does anyone know what lines in the /lib/kbd files I can amend manually to fix this problem?

I have been able to move files and log on as a new user, but this an annoying bug that I would like to fix. Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

What distro are you using? Seems like a development/unstable distro as it's relying on GLIBC_2.4.

Thanks for the reply. I am using FC4 with kernel 2.6.14.1365. All I did was use the Red Hat update agent to upgrade the kernel and KDE to 3.5. I was advised that this was a known bug and I should download kbd-1.12-12.1 as this was supposedly a fix. When I tried this, I got a dependency error needing libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4). When I boot I get a setfont error because this file is missing. I have not been able to install libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) becuase I get additional dependency error for glibc-common among others, which I know is installed already.

This has really got me stumped. Since yours is the only reply, I am assuming it everyone else stumped as well.

Any help would be appreciated

Bob

I'm not familiar with the detailed mechanics of the latest RPM repository management,
but it appears you are pulling in packages from the development branch
(http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...t/i386/Fedora/) of their repository. What you really want are updates from the stable FC4 branch (http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...dates/4/i386/).

As to how to change the repository...well you're on your own on that.

Yes, see;

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=172425

Downloading the source rpm for kbd from the development site and building the binary should work without any problems also.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried to install the source RPM, but couldn't because of a missing gpg key as well as the dependency for libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4).
These are probably minor problems for a Linux verteran, but I'm still very much a newbie.

But, everytime I beat one of these things I learn a little more. Haven't given up. I love Linux.
