HELP!! Fedora 2 won't recognize CD's!!!
I spent all day yesterday downloading Fedora Core 2 and just burnt the ISO's after I got home.... Tried to install on my notebook..
HP pavilion ze5270
P4 2.4GHz
40 GB HD
DVD/CDRW
Internal Floppy
etc...
Currently running FC1 fully updated... running perfect.... I use it for developing ColdFusion applications....
When I try to install Fedora Core 2... I get the usual boot screen... push enter..
Get the screen to specify language and installation source (text based not GUI screen) and after specifying installation source as CDROM (which is what I just booted off of) it says:
The Fedora Core CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the Fedora Core CD and press OK to retry.
I saw another post that someone had on redhat's website with the same problem on a Dell inspirion with FC2 Test2 and he ran ide=nodma at boot and it worked... no luck here.... any suggestions would be great... I'm REALLY looking forward to FC2!
Thanks!

Well. I haven't even downloaded C2 yet. But, from the install notes I used to install C1 on a Pavilion laptop;
allowcddma
Hope that works for you. If it does, let us know. I'll be going through the same process soon =)

burnt as iso images?
I once forgot to make sure and burn the CD's as bootable iso's (needed to make that choice in the Roxio CD burner)...and then it's just data, and you can't use it for installation purposes.

I've found the same problem too... I've donwloaded the iso images and burned with cdrecord as usual, but it doesn't install. It cannot identify the cd image in the cd-rom so cannot mount /dev/cdrom ...
Here is the detailed steps i've done:
(the iso images are burned with cdrecord)
- boot from fc2 disc 1 is regular
- i've press Enter to install in graphical mode
- choose a language: english
- what type of keyboard do you have: us
- Installation method: Local CDROM
- here is the problem: CD NOT FOUND: the fedora core cd was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert (?!?!) the fedora core CD and press OK to retry.
...but the fedora core CD is inserted in the cdrom drive... bah
now the Alt+F3 command's shell:
...
trying to mount CD device hdd
nntloop loop0 on /mnt/runtime as /mnt/source/Fedora/base/stage2.img fd is 13
failed to mount loop: Invalid argument
...and now the Alt+F4 shell:
...
<7> ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet level 3
<4> unable to load NLS charset utf8
<4> unable to load NLS charset utf8
<7> ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A
<4> Unable to idetify CD-ROM format.
<4> VFS: Can't find ext2 filesystem on dev loop0
<3> cramfs: wrong magic
My hw is:
m/b Asus a7n266 with 256 mb ram
Duron 1300 Mhz
cdrom Creative cd 2422E and dvd rom LG DRD 8120 B
I've also try to use the command "linux allowcddma" at boot but the song remain the same...
p.s. the same machine isntalls and boots regulary with fc1 fc2test1 test2 and test3...

If you mentioned this already, sorry. Didn't see it though.
If you insert the cd in another machine and can't see the image, then either the .iso was fubar'd or possibly the cd itself was. I ran into this with FC1 on my first try.
Many of the Pavilion laptops use(d) a brand/model of cd/dvd combo drive that was - let's say - faulty. So bad that there is a list of cd brands/types that you cannot use for burning .iso's. When using one of these listed brands you can expect a failure rate of %30 or more. The problems have been reported as getting worse the older the drive gets. I will hunt it down but, I do remember Maxell being on it.
I tried burning FC1 to one of these platters and CD2 turned into a coaster. I went through many downloads/burns before I found out about the drive problems. By then I had a CD1 image that was the victim of a bad download. Checking the md5 showed this. So after much hair pulling, and after buying some high end cdr's I was successful.
This may not be your situation but, its worth checking into.

No, actually i didn't burn the ISO's from my pavilion...which I've never burnt a coaster yet! ;-) I used my desktop... and the CDRW drive I used is a high-end TDK drive... and the MD5 sums are good too... I know it's not a problem with the disc.. because it still boots fine... which means the boot image on the disc is working... it's a problem with something else I can't quite figure...

Ahh darn. I was hoping it would be the easy fix
I might run into this very same problem this evening, if I ever get away from my work to try my install. Hmm.

Hey....
I just got home from work and decided to re-trace all my steps so far...
I rechecked the MD5SUMS for all 5 iso's and discs 3,4, & rescue were all fine but 1 & 2 were different this time... i verified with the first one i did and it said they were fine.. so i rechecked again and still 1&2 are bad iso's...
so i'm dl-ing them again right now... kernel.org is giving me like 180 K on both downloads... woo-hoo... i guess not many people are still dl-ing it...
I'll post back after i finish with the results...
SO EVERYONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM RECHECK YOUR SUMS!!!!

Just as a post... the new downloaded ISO's of discs 1 & 2 showed up with the right MD5SUMs... I just started the install and the first is working like a charm... just formatted the partitions and is starting the install process...
YAY FEDORA... i guess this technically means I have no bugs yet... considering it was just an MD5 fault...
