Without knowing your current partitioning scheme (post the results of fdisk -l as root), that question isn't really answerable.

Look in the dos stuff on the first install disk for partitioning/resizing utilities.

A KNOPPIX Linux Live CD would be very handy to have on hand as well.

Normal proceedure is to install Windows first because of it's insistance on being top dog in the box, then installing Linux, jumping through the various hoops that Microsoft so kindly provides for you to have to jump through.

I have found that Windows works best when installed on /dev/hda1.

Do I buy a boxed source, download off the internet or buy some cheap CDs?
It's your choice! If you download, I suggest that you check the md5sums on the Linux ISO Images and make sure you know how to burn ISOs in Windows to install Linux

Thx for that info I will be looking into it all I would really hate to lose everything I have setup thus far in linux maybe I'll have to consider using another PC in the house.

It certainly eases the job with two boxen.

I normally run two boxen, one Linux, the other Windows XP Pro, (makes both OSs simple to use with no hoop jumping) but tinwhistle, my Linux box, broke during a power outage, so I had to move my Linux drive to my Windows box, uilleann.

I think it may have just been a power supply and it just came in today, but I won't have time to rebuild tinwhistle until a while later (gotta clean house for a visit of two other uilleann pipers).

I am getting paranoid, so I have an old Celeron 450 cpu and mobo and parts enough to build me another linux box (bones) for a file server/router to serve my other boxen.
