I have no complaints about the FC3 release, to me it seems that they have fixed a few problems from the FC2 ... in FC3 i got my Lexmark printer working, it's not perfect but at least i can print all my papers/documents now, which it didn't in FC2 no matter what i would try, that was a major issue for me. As for updates, strixy said that he had 124 updates after the install???? i only had 7 updates after the install and i had 9 updates this morning (2 days after the install), that is it. With downloading, it wouldn't let me donwload from any north american servers as those where too busy, but i had no problems downloading from a european mirror server and the download completed with in 3 - 4 hours.

Over all i am happy with FC3

When I downloaded FC2 I used a mirror from england and was able to keep a 128kbit up so then I started on the second cd as I have a 3mb down and 384 upline. I thought being an mirror to give back to the comunity, but when I get home from work I hate to see my connection all tied up.

Here's what I did. I went onto the fedora mirror list at around midnight on Wed and performed a few test clicks on files to see which mirrors were more responsive. I then started my download of all five disk images and went to bed. 'Twas like Christmas morning when I woke. Less traffic in the middle of the night don't cha know.

Hopefully a jigdo will be available for FC4 - jigdo really is a superior distribution method to CD ISO's (a jigdo downloads the individual files and creates an iso out of them - thus mirrors don't need 4 install CD images, 4 src CD images, DVD image, + the packages - just needs the packages)

Torrent is probably faster than jigdo and that should remain available, but a lot of people can't use torrent.

Anyway - I think FC3 ownz FC2 and FC1 - Fedora is coming along nicely.

Thank you all for your suggestions that helped. The people that were rude. I got one thing to say. Boy ani't got no time for your kind. The problem here was the integrity check FC3 reports all CD's bad. If you boot up on FC2 I found only one bad and I was off and running. Thank You.

Rude? Well, the only posting that I will consider a bit harsh was the one questioning you why you need to blame on Fedora when you couldn't download it and saying that it backwards.. may be it was better for you if you reword you subject and some part of your original posting.. and sorry, checking your original message and you replies, you didn't mentioned about integrity check problem at all.. people are not mind readers you know.

one thing i hate about any rh/fedora release in general (yes it's been mentioned a million times but it still irks me no matter what) is the fact that it still doesn't support ntfs or mp3s out of the box. i mean come on..they need to get with the times here. These tasks should be basic and not require extra configuration. Add that to the fact that it can be so complicated to do simple things like installing certain programs (i'm sure everyone is familiar with rpm-dependency hell). Thats why I love Debian. Apt-Get does it all. I know Fedora has Yum, (and even apt, though i never tried it on fedora), but IMHO Yum doesn't quite compare with apt-get. Also, I don't like how RH/Fedora always butchers the default KDE and I was a little upset that the kernel source was not included by default. Just my 2 cents. The only reason I have Fedora installed is for curiousity sake on a quadruple boot system

Smile just think a little please.....

I have seen many people complain about the downloads and the inability of RH to incorporate different things in to FC3 and am a little stunned by the ignorance and patience of these complainers.

Please think a little.....

MP3 support does not come with FC3 because of possible lawsuits from the MP3 codec owners. Anyone with a brain in their skull knows that in America the best way to get a ton of money is to have someone break your copyright and then sue them. RedHat is NOT going to break a copywrite. PERIOD. So please get over the fact that MP3 support is not "right out of the box". It's easy enough in install the codec. If you don't know how just keep reading the forums and you will eventually 'get it'. Remember this is free and tons of people around the world give time and money to this project even though you may not. And with that in mind... think of this also....

The people complaining about downloading the ISO's and getting errors or other problems.... be patient, use bittorrent, or better yet, go to a CD distributor and buy it for less than $10 including shipping!!!! It's not much. I bought the 5CD version for 9.47 which included shipping to my house and the CD's were verified. I have a 3Meg connection and can download super fast, I got the FC3 DVD iso in 3-4 hours or so and let the bittorrent run for 3 days to upload back to others. I had downloaded about 2.5 GIG and uploaded about 15 Gig. Help each other, it makes life a whole lot more fun and fullfilling.

Keep reading and learning folks.... good luck to all.

it is not a matter of ignorance that makes me complain about the way fedora is setup. NTFS and MP3 are not hard to implement. It's a matter of convenience; you can either buy a broken down house and after a ton of work, fix it up to your liking (in this case Fedora), or you can just buy a new house that doesn't need any fixing. Its your own personal choice.

I had major problems getting the ISO's for Core3 - was using mirror.ac.uk and the download kept stalling and wasn't resumeable - used a mirror on Heathnet in Ireland and got them no problems (at 1 in the morning)

With a fresh installation of Fedora, you can download apt-get and set up MP3, NTFS and DVD in less than ten minutes. It's just a matter of a couple of rpms that were left out. That tiny bit of extra work is definitely worth it to me in order to get a completely free OS with an easy install that does everything correctly.

Oh, good thing you started this thread cause I wanted to start one of my own to say that Fedora core 3 is a piece of krap, I installed it on a server , it's been 2 days since then, just configured it and didin't temper with it very much since then. Now I execute "netstat" and it gives me Segmentation fault ..bleah.. . this is probably the last time I use fedora..I'm going back to red hat

File a bleeping bug report.
And verify the md5sum to make sure it isn't from a poorly compiled root kit.

I used Bittorrent and had no problems downloading the iso's. As some of the other posters have said. Click on it and go to bed. Then give back to the community once you have it.

Jees.

If you can't download it, just buy it from a CDR vendor. $10-15 not to mess around seems worthy to me (yeah, I'm a CDR vendor; no, for the purposes of this discussion I'm not telling you which one).

Here's the alias command I use to burn FC disks:
alias fcburn="cdrecord -v gracetime=2 dev=0,0,0 -dao driveropts=burnfree -eject
-data $1"
