hy experts, can sombody help me to understand Hal and udev in fedora core 4, or indicate me some documantation???

Hy, i want to now why fedora has adopted it, and what it do exactly.

hal - Hardware Abstraction Layer. it provides a common access and notification framework for hardware devices like CD drives, USB sticks, Monitors etc... It was adopted because of well.. what it does. that's handy.
