Hey, I'm brand new to linux. I've had it for about 3 days, so you might have to dumb down the answers a little bit so that i can understand.
So, heres my problem. I just installed GYUM, and it was working perfectly fine, I had opened and closed it many times flawlessly. Then I went to the settings one time and added a repository, then accidently closed GYUM before having a chance to enter any of the repo's information (i have no idea if this is significant or not).
When I went to start it back up again, it appeared to be normal (saying "Updating YUM cash"), and then after a few seconds of the updating, it would just close before i could even do anything. a couple of lines of text show up for literally a split second in the bottom right of GYUM. But it happens so fast it is impossible to read what it says. After watching it do it about 10 times, the only word i have seen in the text that flashes is "error". But i can't see what comes after it.
Now, my question. Is there any way to re-install GYUM (i'm coming from Windows if you can't tell)? Would Re-installing it fix this problem? If not, what should I do.
ANY advice is appreciated. Sorry for being kind of a n00b. I've just been getting extremely frustrated over this.
(p.s. I'm running FC3, and GYUM 2.0.5 if that makes any difference)
how did you install it? did you download a source file and install it that way? or use an .rpm file with your package manager? if so, then sure, try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling fresh, reading a manual or some other help file that came with it, or on the site, about adding repositories (if necessary).
something you can try first, open up a terminal window and enter the name of the program to run it. iv never heard of your program, but you said GYUM.. so at the terminal try and just type 'gyum' (probably all lowercase) and hit enter. if thats the name of the program, it will load, and when it crashes it should display a message in the terminal window why it crashed. that info might help you, or you can post it here.
Ok, here is the error it is giving me. It looks like it does have to do with the repository i added. But i don't know how to change it. I looked through the config files for it and couldn't find any way to change it.
Code:
Starting GYUM..please wait..updating yum cache..
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 3 - i386 - Base
Server: New Server Name
retrygrab() failed for:
http://host/path/headers/header.info
Executing failover method
failover: out of servers to try
Error getting file http://host/path/headers/header.info
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error >
Also, I used an .rpm to install the package, how do i uninstall it?
EDIT!!
I found the config file and removed what was causing the problems. It was my own stupid fault, i was looking at the YUM config rather then the GYUM one.
