Hi ! I have just installed Fedora 10 on my core2duo Desktop System with 17" monitor. But the gui is not starting up. It is giving me text mode. I just used the command "startx" but it showed lots of errors and failures. Can somebody help me to fix the problem.
Can somebody tell me how to create swap partition while setup as GUI mode is not working?
I have 2 above mentioned problems. Hope to see the answers soon.
You should probably configure the X server. The command is
xorgconfig
As to the swap partition, do you have an empty partition on you drive that you plan to use as swap? If so, just type (as root)
mkswap /dev/<partition_name>
swapon /dev/<partition_name>
To make it permanent, edit your /etc/fstab, include a line like this
/dev/<partition_name> swap swap defaults 0 0
If you don't have a designated partition, create one in the empty space with the
cfdisk
command.

Bro ! regarding SWAP Partition while setup, is not possible through Commands. I have been asked to type mount point and size of the partiton out of the free space. Firstly i type "/" give it space of 10 GB. then I select to create a new partition out of free space. I selected memory space of 1gb and typed "swap" in mount point. But it didn't approved the value of mount point and then I tried "/swap". It didn't work too. How can I create swap partition during setup? I will re-install Fedora to learn this step. Do reply.
Regarding GUI, I am using NVIDIA Chipset Motherboard: nForce610i. Help me setting up GUI now.
Ok am going to show you how to create a swap file not a swap partition, but both can do just fine.
first create a file named /swap.swp using the touch command.
second run the command dd if=/dev/zero of=/swap.swp
then run the command mkswap /swap.swp
finally edit /etc/fstab file by adding you new swap file.
it should look like someething like this
/swap.swp none swap
