grub error

Hi all,
I had linux partitioned on a single hard drive and XP as well running.
I had some problem due to deletion of one partition(unknown) and when I rebooted I got a grub error.
I am stuck... is there a way I can take my windows data I dont have much in linux. I tried rebooting with fedora and tried linux rescue. After searching it said there is no linux partition available. I looked for grub conf file it wasnt there.
Nor could I able to mount my c drive in linux.

Is there a way out ....

You can try at least two things:

Boot from Windows install CD--rescue mode, and enter "fixmbr". This should let you at least get back to Windows.
Boot from any Linux "live CD"---eg Knoppix (also many of the more modern distros--including maybe your Fedora) If you can get into some form of Linux, open a terminal and type "fdisk -l" and post the output here

If you have valuable data on the disk which is not backed up, then proceed with caution---don't do anything that might write to the disk (fixmbr and fdisk -l are OK)
