Unhappy Google Chrome crashing under Fedora 19/20 when running Youtube videos

I seem to have this problem on an off with Youtube videos running Google Chrome under Fedora 19/20. With some of the earlier Fedora distros I did not have this problem. Google searches suggested that the problem with the Adobe flash plugin which I updated but still had the same problem on and off. I run Chrome form the activities list in Fedora. This morning I started running Chrome from a terminal and so far it hasn't crashed/frozen. Why would this make a difference ?

Any ideas, folks ?

Hi:

I'm not entirely sure why running Chrome from the terminal would make it launch any more differently than launching it from your applications menu.
Perhaps functionality is more efficient using the terminal with some programs than others. Maybe other members running Fedora and Chrome will know more.

Check and make sure that you have the most Google Chrome stable version that's out there installed.
You could also try removing it with yum and than re-install it if you continue to experience crashes--

Maybe Gnome & XFCE don't play nice with Chrome. Maybe do a little research if you have the time; it could provide you with some answers.

You could alternatively install Mozilla Firefox. It works great on my Fedora:-

Ram usage?

Some oddity of motherboard firmware?

Ram issue?

Did they both run flash or is one running html5?

Hello guys

Thanks for your responses. It seems a Chrome update via Fedora solved the problem

Your Welcome-
Did you run "yum update" and that updated Chrome?

HW Acceleration.

For me, the problem was being caused by the Hardware Acceleration package.

I just had to uncheck option "Use hardware acceleration when available" in "chrome://settings/"

Thanks for the update.

So keeping the hardware acceleration enabled made the mess for you, that's crazy-

Glad you were able to find out what it was.

I read an article online about Google Chrome and I remember finding out that it is bundled with a lot of other things.
Some people said they thought that those extra things that the browser comes with creates issue's.
Maybe that's why it launched differently in the terminal than from the Applications Menu.

Sorry it's been a while since I read that article and don't have the link but at least I remembered what was mentioned.

You could switch to another browser.

I know FC comes with Midori but I never liked that browser so I just used FF.

One thing I have found to be with browsers is the more add-on's you have sometimes that causes update issues.
(least in my case it did)

Iceweasel runs pretty well and Sea Monkey runs good too.
