Gnome disappeared, only xterm remains

Hi all,

I'm not sure why this happened, but when I boot, I get the normal login screen, then I get taken to an xterm and not Gnome, which is the default desktop. I'm not sure if xterm is the correct name, but it's a terminal that runs in X. The options under the session button show only 1. Last Session, 2. Default, and 3. Failsafe terminal. Gnome appears to be installed.

Does anyone know why this would happen or how it can be fixed? Thanks in advance.

Try logging in and typing "switchdesk gnome" into the xterm. Log out and back in and if Gnome is installed you should be presented with a Gnome desktop.

I'll keep that in mind if thise happens again. Soon after I posted this message, I simply reinstalled the gnome desktop, which seemed to fix the problem.
