GFTP- is it secure?

hey everyone..i been trying to increase my security quite a bit lately

I was wondering....is GFTP secure? If not, can I connect to the server first through some sort of SSL or other encryption when sending files over the net to my web host? (Sometimes I have access to "privileged" info like stuff included in a NDA (sp?))

Ftp the protcol isn't very secure. I would suggest looking at SCP as a replacement.
