fonts have become strange in mozilla after updating kernel?

I'm using FC2 and my mozilla became strange after I have updated kernel.

Here is what happened.

up2date (GUI) showed that I could update kernel from 2.6.5-1.358 to 2.6.8-1.521.

I checked the box for updating kernel, and clicked forward. But the internet connection was stopped while downloading.

After the connection was recovered, I have opened mozilla and found out that the fonts became really edged and not smooth as it used to be. Special characters like looked also strange.

I assumed that this problem would be fixed if I finish updating kernel, but after updating
I still have the same problem.

I am not sure if this is a kernel issue, but it looks like that. I tried to change configuration for fonts for mozilla and KDE, but the fonts still looks strange.

What can I do to solve this problem?

Hope someone can help me out...

When you updated to kernel 2.6.8-1.521 did you keep kernel 2.6.5-1.358? I have run into some problems since updating also and found that when I boot up using the older kernal the problem went away. The first time I noticed having problems with the new kernel was when I tried burning images to disc-switched back to kernel 2.6.5-1.358 and was able to burn images again.Switch back to the old kernel and see if your problem disappears or at least changes.

it sounds like you aren't loading a module you need. I would look at the messages as you boot up to see if you get any module loading errors related to fonts. Do you use a language besides english for your fonts?

hey Ryptyde,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I can boot up with the old kernel 2.6.5-1.358 but I still have the problem.
This is really odd, because I noticed the problem after I have downloaded a part of 2.6.8-1.521.
Just downloading the kernel without installing changes the settings... can this be possible?

hey mAineAc

Thanks for your advice. although I cannot see any erros related to fonts under boot log.
I installed FC2 with 3 languages, Danish, English and Japanese, and I use each of them
quite often. I try to explain a bit more:

- the characters on e.g. LinuxQuestions.org look strange (very edged) on mozilla, but I have also seen some webside which shows o.k. characters
- Danish characters like ̏ look strange compared to other characters. Especially when I change
mozilla config to show larger fonts, only these special characters keep the same size.
- When I log on with english language, Japanese characters on window title and bookmark tab for mozilla
look poor (edged). When log on with Japanese language, they look nice (smooth).

I didn't have these problems before the unsucceeded downloading og the kernel.
I have tried to change to differents fonts in kcontrol (for both Appearance & themes and Internet and network) withou luck.

Now I am not sure... maybe I should put this thread under software?
