Finding Files in Fedora 17

On previous versions of Fedora that I have installed, I have been able perform a search for files.

I have installed Fedora 17 and I do not find any such search. Is there a way to search for a particular file if you do not already know where it should be located?

The find and locate command come to mind.

Find is rather resource intensive, use locate if possible. You do need a freshly updated updatedb to get correct replies (have a look here: Upadate DataBase for locate Command using updatedb Command).

Thanks.

My previous verson had a GUI and this is command-line - so I suppose that is progress!

However, I have now been able to search (and not find) for a file. At least I know it isn't there.
