File System Panic

I just recently installed FC3 (over, not updating, a rather abused FC2 installation), and on my first shutdown I noticed a "Fat filesystem panic (dev/hda1) invalid access" error. I noticed this again at my second shut down, and my third. On the third I noted that it came before "shutting down portmap", seemed to occur about 7 or so times in a row, and included a string of letters and numbers after "invalid access", which were different each time.

While attempting to set up my USB palm cradle for gnome-pilot (I think I'll be using jpilot again), I was looking at the System Logs with the redhat logviewer. The message was there again, and I was getting a new one every second or so (maybe more often). At this point my computer slowed down to the point where it wasn't very useful, and I closed the logviewer. I've noticed this slowing down often with FC3 (in my 3 days of experience).

Looking at System Monitor shows a CPU usage of around 10%, but when I get the slowdown, it goes up to 100%, and sits there.

These problems may be separate - I have no idea - but I'd like any help I can get.

Um, its just the default partitioning with FC3, no Windows.
Kdiskfree says I have /dev/hda1, dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVoll00 and /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
