file permissions cant be changed!

ive just installed fedora core 3 on my desktop as my main OS, and i'm somehow not allowed to change any of my file permissions or ownership stuff. i have a fat32 drive with my data on it, that mounts properly that id like to modify permissions on, 744 just isnt cuttin it for all my data.

i have SELinux installed but i disabled it using the GUI applet and verified that the change was made in /etc/selinux/config. how can i chage file permissions as root? thanks in advance for the help!

PS fedora core 3 is awesome! it's the first distro that ive used ever that just works (so far). congrats

changing permissions to 744 on fat32 ? :-D
there is no perms on fat filesystems. u can just change mounting options so users can read and write.

good luck.
