Fedora7 Graphical Install Fails/Dell XPS-M1710 (2nd Gen)

<EDIT> crap - sorry didn't mean to post this in Fedora, bu Fedora Installation forum....my bad, feel free to move it ....

===============
Greetings

Trying to install Fedora7 via graphical install gets me to starting the X server portion after aic detection, and it just hangs with the "X" and a grayed out speckled screen, everytime, text mode appears to work just fine...

Video card:
512MB NVIDIAŽ GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX on a Dell XPS-M1710

I had to piecemeal together a driver for FC6 since nvidia didn't have one for this card when I installed fc6, but that shouldn't make a difference, FC6 installed in graphical mode just fine, FYI

anyone else have similar issues or know of a resolution to this or tried Fedora7 on a Dell XPS-M1710 2nd Gen

thanks again

Most Linux distributions come with a generic Nvidia driver, if you can boot to a command line (assuming you installed already via text mode), try editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the driver from vesa to nv if it is set to use vesa. I have an older XPS Gen 5 with GeForce Go 6800, Fedora 7 used the nv driver right off the bat. Did you set up livna repository and install the nvidia driver with yum?. I surely loved having a high end computer when I first got mine, and any Linux I installed had no problems with this card, the newer Dell high end units use cutting edge technology, which has it's ups and downs.
