fedora14 skype sound cracks

Hello !

I am having some trouble with my skype at fedora14 using pulsaudio.

Everything works fine until I start skype.

After skype is running, I have a really bad sound. Cracking all the time.

When I do

Quote:
pulseaudio -k
everything is fine again.

Seems to me, that e.g. xmms uses pulsaudio but skype does not. Could it be it talks direkt to alsa ?

I tried uninstalling alsa-pulsaudio-plugins but it did not help.

Some sides/users mentioned to edit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf :

Quote:
default-fragments = 8
default-fragment-size-msec = 10
But that did not solve the problem.

After that i wanted to start skype with pulseaudio susspended,

Quote:
pasuspender skype
but that also killed all audio in skype as it is configured to use puls ( btw is it even possible to use skype without puls ?)

Does anybody have skype installed and sound without cracks ?

If so, how does that work.

I even adjust the sample rate but it did not change a thing. There is some flame going on in the skye forum (http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=345441&st=40) but all that does not help.

Some more links i found:

http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=213711

So you can see i invested some time in that problem.

That maybe shows why it is not to easy: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...io-diagram.svg

And: no, the new Skype

skype-2.2.0.25-fc10.i586

does not solve the problem.

Seems for me not to be a problem with pulsaudio in general as it does not only appear with skype.

Let`s google that.

Cool

Fedora 14 x86_64 with skype 2.2 here.
Everything works fine apart from skype.
I figured out that in pulseaudio volume control when you go to the config tab and choose a different
speaker configuration it gets better (or sometimes worse)
In my case for analog stereo the sound is pretty bad, but for 5.1 it is completely fine, and for 4.1 it is the worst of all.

Don't know if this is a skype or pulseaudio bug. But it looks as if it a functional workaround (for me at least).
