Fedora Server 25 running VERY sluggishly

I have an older Dell server (PE2900), running F25 server. This machine has more than enough RAM (about 48GB), and should be able to handle fedora. It ran Windows 2008 R2 without any issue.

I installed Fedora to get more acquainted with it and to start using more linux based environments on the server side of things. Because I am not THE expert on all things linux, I installed Gnome. But this seems to not help things at all because its running EXTREMELY slugglishly. Typing messages, or just the simple command of "term" takes a while... Moving from one screen to the next with the mouse lags.

I am not sure what to do. This is a fresh install. The only thing that I have installed is Chrome...

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? If it's gnome, how do I uninstall it? I installed like this:

Code:
su -c 'dnf group install workstation-product-environment'
su -c 'systemctl set-default graphical.target'
su -c 'systemctl enable gdm.service'

Not so much gnome as video driver probably. I use Fedora habitually - including this laptop. Install inxi and post the output of this.
Code:
sudo inxi -Fm -c 0

Hi and welcome. It would be good to post some specific data, like from top, etc., from spending a bit of time researching on the web, about linux performance analysis basics/tutorial. http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20...markTools.html
You can also find mulituser.target, to temporarily stop the GUI, without uninstalling, to see how things feel. Yes, it will be interesting to see what model graphics card (or the built-in ati es1000). Enjoy learning

p.s. Web search wild-guess: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53204 disk i/o!, which links to a blacklist... I'm looking forward to learning what "detective" techniques work here!!!

Here is the info requested... I ended up making gnome not start automatically and starting it using startx. I am guessing that this graphics card can handle Xorg better than Wayland. So if I were to simply disable Wayland by default, and reenable the GUI to load on boot, I should be okay. Thoughts?

Interesting re wayland - haven't seen issues with that myself for a while.

Looks like that ES1000 has been a problem child for a while. I would go with another DE (I like Mate in limited hardware, but have no experience of issues like this) - others seem to have successfully used LXDE or xfce. Though it's likely that was before Wayland.
I would also turn wayland off permanently, but given Fedora history, you may not have that option forever.

Edit: cancel that thought. Stay with gnome if it works, and just turn Wayland off.

Thanks for the tip on the [code] tag. I will keep that in mind in the future.

I will keep using gnome but turn off Wayland as suggested. Thank you for your help!
