Fedora Port of YAST
 

I am running Fedora Core 6. I also run Suse 10.2, and I really miss YAST in Fedora. I see where Oracle has ported it to RHEL, but I cannot find a Fedora port. Does anyone know of one?

RHEL is based on Fedora so its possible the one for RHEL would work.

Thanks. It almost works. It tells me I need to install ash (the shell.) I tried YUM, but it is not in the repository. I tried just putting a symbolic link to bash called ash. It is smarter than that. I have looked for source that I can compile, but it does not seem to be available.

Never heard of "ash" before. Did a Google which returns this page:

It talks about "dash" being the Debian implementation.

Looking further I see the following site:

Has dash bundles which would likely be installable on any Linux distro.

yum doesn't show dash or ash on either my FC4 or FC6 searches so you'd have to load from the above bundle.

Of course even if you get all this going I'm not sure you'll be able to load many things using YAST since it isn't really the way most Fedora/Redhat folks bundle their packages. You might end up having to install many things via yum anyway so might be better off just getting used to it. (Or work on Aptitude or other ports that have broader acceptance on Debian based distros as I believe you'll find more folks have provided those Debian style tools on Fedora/Redhat than YAST).

or try YUM Extender, I missed YaST too but can live without it now...
