I love my new fedora machine, but it totally locks up and nothing will work. I have to totally reboot. Sometimes also, when I turn it on, the monitor seems like it is in sleep mode ie. the light on the button is orange and the screen is blank. The computer is working, but the screen is off. This leads me to believe the whole problem is maybe with the video card. I am extremely new to linux and fedora please help.
one more thing, when it locks up, there is a kind of high pitch whine coming from inside the box. kind of like the normal computer noises, but it is a little louder and it is a higher pitch

I built a new AMD system, when I purchase my new powersupply from the store, it said 400 on the box. But after 2 days of having a machine that would boot sometimes, or not run at all with the same symptoms you having, the monitor would display the message check pc. The moral of the story is someone had swaped out powersupplies in the boxes, I had a 250w instead of what the box stated-400w.
