I tried installing Fedora and everything went good up until a message saying a bug happened. I didn't chose to save it a floppy. Probably should have. The install was then aborted. I then re-started the computer and tried to do another install. Everything was Ok until I tried to consult the documentation. After waiting for 20 minutes, I re-booted. At this point, the computer refuses to boot of the CD and tells me I have a "Missing Operating System". I check my Bios settings. All looks good. I try other bootable CD's. Nothing. Finally, I get Hard Drive eraser and proceed to wipe the drive. Still can't boot of the CD, any bootable CD. Any ideas to this bizarre problem?
Re-edited the BIOS settings to make the CDROM first device to boot.
Got it working!
This is strange but I don't know How it worked!
Suggestion:- Don't try to open release-notes or documentation
while installation. Sometimes it can behave the strangest way.
Thanks for the replies. Turns out the CD-ROM drive was on its last legs. Not needing nothing fancy, I picked up a $20 CD-ROM drive. With regards to the second person who responded, I did run the sha1sum command to make sure all my checksums matched up correctly. Should I re-download or just re-burn to another CD? I burned to a CD-R and I thought I was ready to go. The other thing I would like to know is how to I go about addressing any drivers that could not be matched up. Can I use the GUI to configure the driver or do I need to do it from a command prompt. Just so you know I am a newbie with Linux so any links you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.
With regards to the person who said this, I HAVE A NAME .
If your checksums are ok, then try burning it on a good cd and install. If you still get an error, then its better to 're-download'(in your own words).
Thanks Shrikant. No disrespect intended. Do you or any of the other gurus know if a D-Link WDA-2320 will work on Fedora O.S.
D-Link has no drivers for Linux and I am just wondering if a generic driver will work. Thanks.
