Fedora icon replacing Red Hat Icon

How do I replace teh Fedora icon, the "f" in the top left next to applications. I want to use the red hat icon. I am running FC5 with GNOME.

THANKS.

The main Fedora gnome menu icons are located in /usr/share/icons/Bluecurve. I think all you need to do is copy the Redhat icon to the right subdirectory and give it the same name as the Fedora icon (after backing up the Fedora icon :)).

By the way, I moved your thread to the Fedora forum, so that it gets more exposure.

Thanks, I had been wondering this as well, but was too busy fixing other things to take the time to figure it out (I didn't realize that it would have been that easy).

I spoke to soon. In /usr/share/icons/Bluecurve there are folders for different size icons, and none of them are the actual fedora icon, there are many that link to that icon though, which is really located at /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps (where 24x24 can be any of the sizes for icons). I backed up that fedora icon and replaced it with the red hat. The icon is called fedora-logo-icon.png (and is originally found at /usr/share/icons/Bluecurve/24x24/apps/redhat-icon-panel-menu.png).

I have changed the icon for all sizes, and cannot find an icon or link to an icon that is the fedora f, however it still appears as the application menu icon. It did change System>About Fedora to show the hat.

Any ideas where else I should look?

oh, ya, I am using gnome. If I use KDE it shows the hat instead of the F, so it works in there, just not in Gnome

Look for gnome-main-menu.png and icon-panel-menu.png. Maybe they are the icons you need to change.

ya, they both link to the image that I made the red hat, and as I scroll through the browser looking at the icons I cannot see the fedora f anywhere, so I don't know where it is coming from.

The next time I login to Fedora, I'll tinker a little bit and see if I can change the gnome menu icon. I will keep you updated of any progress or otherwise.

Thanks, I will post if I get it working right as well

I did this, but it was the other way around -- I changed the hat to the "f" in FC4.

It worked, but I had to change all the different sizes before the icon on the panel changed.

The FC5 logo is 'fedora-logo-icon.png' and is located in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/NxN/apps (where NxN is the size). If you replace all the different sizes of this icon with what is called 'icon-panel-menu.png' from FC4 (located in /usr/share/icons/bluecurve/NxN/apps), the icon in the panel should change. Or at least it worked for me in reverse in FC4!:)

I am glad you got it sorted. :)
