Fedora Core 6 new user passwords not working

OK, so I'm not that clever. But a basic simple task in linux is setting up a user account from root.

I use the User Manager app, add a user, put in a password, try to login, and am told "Access denied"...invalid user account...blah blah

Help!!!

This one has me baffled. I'm doing everything from root at the moment, and want out...

Did you select "create home directory"? Have you added user passord twice? In any event, check this: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...fig-users.html

Thanks for the advice. I looked there, but I did everything that the admin process claimed works... Not sure what the issue is.

I did make the home dir, etc... Did everything I was supposed to.

When I save the new user account, with a 7 character password, and go back and look at it after committing, it only has a 5 character password, every time.

Truly baffling. I may do it in shell and see what happens. Maybe its an admin GUI problem in FC6

I never used the graphic fool to add users. I normally use useradd from a command line.

yeah, you're probably right. I've gotten lazy over the years with all this stuff.
