Fedora Core 5 and No Sound on Audigy MP3 and P4C800-E Deluxe

Hi

Does anyone know how to turn on sound in Fedora Core 5?

Here what i have tried?
1. un-mute options in alsamixer and turning up the volume to no avail
2. I have tried my Audigy MP3 and the onboard sound of my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe to no avail
3. I have installed mp3 on the system
4. I have googled no sound and Fedora Core 5 to no avail
5. I have applied all updates to Fedora Core 5 to no avail

Thanks in Advance,
NBK

NBK,
Log out as user, then log in as root. Under 'system', 'references', click volume control. When the window pops up, scroll all the way to the right checking each setting as you go. Any red "X" is a 'mute' turned on. Click it to un-mute. Log out as root then back in as user. Test your sound.
If that doesn't fix the problem straight away, reboot. Rebooting can bring the new sound setting into use, if it did not take effect already.

When you installed FC5, did you do the sound test? Did the sound work?
If you've checked all the sound controls and nothing is muted or turned down, and a reboot didn't start the sound, check your 'add/remove' under applications to see what sound control software you have installed. See if there are alternatives that you can install.
Try the XFCE interface, also.

Hmmm..... now here's a strange thing. I just tried to play my favorite internet radio station and couldn't. I tried to play one of my CDs and there was no sound. Odd! I know my sound works. I'll do some more checking and get back to you, or maybe we'll both get lucky and someone will post a solution. I'll check on the Fedora.org forum, too.

Hi,

Just a guess, did you try to change the analog/digital output?
Code:
alsamixer
move right to "Audigy A", change value with "m" or "."

Are you trying to play mp3's coz FC5 doesnt support mp3 out of the box.

You can find lots of posts here on the same. Do a search.

GEt your codecs here http://bordeaux.freshrpms.net/

You can also add freshrpms as a repository in Yum (Add/ Remove software)
