Fedora Core 3 video problems
I have been fighting video problems in fedora core 3 ever since it was released, as i know many of you have. I have been using an averatec 3150hs and the screen was extremely distorted from the initial installation screen to boot up. However by pure dumb luck, I stumbled across the fix.
I have gone through the whole "switch to vesa" thing, and my problems didn't go away.
However, if one would go into /etc/X11/xorg.conf and look down into the section for monitor I found an entry "option "dpms". I have no idea what it is or what it does, but once i deleted it, my machine runs perfectly.
In order to get at this "should your problems exist such as mine," you must install in text mode and boot into text mode (tempararily by pressing 'a' and adding the number 3 at the end of the argument line. Then fire up vim and can that line, restart in normal mode and drink a beer. If its not working.... well... kick something....
