I'm trying to install the drivers for my nVidia graphics card, which require the kernel sources to build the kernel module.
After a fresh install of Fedora Core 3, I ran "yum install upgrade". I'm now running on kernel "2.6.12-1.1381_FC3". However, if I do "yum install kernel-devel", I get the following...
Code:
[root@media yum.repos.d]# yum install kernel-devel

Obviously this package doesn't match my kernel. I've also tried "yum install kernel-devel-2.6.12-1.1381_FC3" but it says "No Match for argument: kernel-devel-2.6.12-1.1381_FC3, Nothing to do". Eventually I will need to install the Linuxant "Stack16" version of the 2.6.12-1.1381 kernel, to get ndiswrapper working.
So does this mean I already have the required sources installed? I haven't tried to build any other modules, such as ivtv. So this could be a problem with the nVidia drivers? I had this machine fully installed with Fedora Core 3 in the past without this trouble, so that was probably a slightly older kernel.
Being as the default kernel-devel package yum wanted to install was 2.6.12-1.1372_FC3, couldn't I install that kernel? I tried "yum install kernel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3", but no cigar.
Damn, this is annoying. After building a fully working MythTV machine with a PlayStation emulator, 3D acceleration etc, I did a system upgrade which stopped ivtv, ndiswrapper and the nVidia modules loading. Now I'm trying to reinstall, I get stuck on such a trivial matter.
Well it just so happens that I'm familiar with MythTV. I'm the creator of MythDora and if you wanted to try it out, be my guest.
Yes you could drop down to a lower kernel and get that kernel-devel if you wanted. Then you could build whatever you wanted. I'm a firm believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
