Fedora Core 3 Install Packages
Im going to be installing Fedora Core 3 tomarrow, and would like some advice on packages.
I dont plan on using Gnome or KDE, ill be putting Fluxbox on it first thing. With Fedora is it possible to just have it install X, then use a RPM or compile fluxbox from there or command prompt? I use to run debian with just X/Fluxbox a while ago. Also without just selecting all packages, what should i be looking for to select along the lines of dev tools/libraries? I rember using Fedora Core 1/2 a while ago and when i just selected basic install, maby programs diddnt work or wouldnt compile because of lack of dependancies/libraries im assuming, but when i did a reinstall and selected every dev tool there they worked. I know i can just look them up and get them afterwords, but if i can avoid as much of that as possible from the beginning the better. Thanks uys -Zaskar |
You should get the KDE (QT libraries) and GNOME (GTK+ libraries), because these are commonly used by programs you run, like mozilla, or openoffice and such. Only X is not enough for resolving dependecies. Yoou have to ask yourself, what you will install, and then install the utilities that you need for them to work.
