fedora core 2 test / kernal 2.6?

Does fedora core 2 test 1 actually come with the 2.6 kernal, or does it come with 2.4??

Thanks!

I've also tried FC2t1 but in VMWare I can get all the way into xwindows and to either gnome or kde use them fine (apart from the odd app error) but the major hurdle I've come across so far is internet access.

I've got the appropriate addresses in /etc/resolve.conf and can ping numerical internet addresses all day long (which rules out incorrect setup of lan card) to an extent) but when it comes to connecting to them in ANY browser, it just doesn't want to know.

I also run FC1 in VMWare and i'm sending this message from it right now!

Only problem i'm having with FC2 is that my sound doesn't work. Of course I think this has something to do with 2.6 in general but i'm not sure.

I had several problems running fedora under Virtual PC - the keyboard kept totally locking up for one, and sound and networking was really dodgy

to get sound working in fedora core 2 test 1 I have to manually set it up everytime I boot .
I open kmixer and turn everything applicable to my sound system and it works fine. Annoying but it works. The question I have is how do I set it up so that it'll automatically set up and work.. I'm running fedora core2 test 1 with kernel 2.6.3-1.97 MSI KT4V mother board with a via 8235 south bridge. sound is AC97(ALC650) I tried to compile the kernel to recognise the sound card it give's me an error. everything is muted in kmixer. Like I said i set it up manually and it works fine. any help would be appreciated.

Write a script that uses aumix to set the levels whenever you log in using X.

/usr/bin/aumix -h will give more info (not sure where it is located on your system) could just be that "aumix" will work

you can do something like
/usr/bin/aumix -v 100
/usr/bin/aumix -w 75

I've just installed Core 2 and so far all seems well...although it really has that "Beta" feel.

Its my 3rd try at installing it...my first time, all went well, but I updated everything and the new version of X refused to start...I googled the error message, got NO results so I just decided to reinstall (the second time, I screwed it up and figured a last reinstall was quicker than fixing it manually)

I cant even install FC2, It hangs up as soon as it tries to start the graphical interface for installation. It found my radeon 9800 when detecting hardware but after several attempts at using the gfx install I gave up.

Should just do it in regular txt mode and see i can get X and stuff to work after that.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this but the 2.6 kernel contains ALSA modules built in. When I upgraded from FC1 to FC2t1 (upgrading probably was a bad idea) I didn't get sound; once I commented out the ALSA stuff in /etc/modules.conf and rebooted, I had sound working beautifully (no extra work other than a restart). If I'm not mistaken, the AC97's have ALSA support so you may just want to use that...I can't say much since I got rid of it in about 10 minutes since I couldn't stand the new Gnome (GOD I hate the changes in the UI...2.4 was much nicer IMHO).

2.6? then it's definitely fedora for me! one question though; theres a 'release' version of Fedora core 1. Does that mean all the bugs have been fixed?

Fedora core 1 uses 2.4 kernel you need to downlaod fedora 2 test 2. If thats what your asking.
