Fedora Core 2 NOT installed, but STILL trashed system
I know, I know. This has been raised a multitude of times.
But here's what I did, and this is why the Fedora Core releases are, IMO, as evil as many releases seen from Redmond:
My two-drive, dual-boot Red Hat 8 / Win2K Pro machine had been happy for about a year. GRUB on the MBR gave me either Linux or DOS, and hda was happy as Win, with hdb happy as Linux.
So yesterday, I boot Fedora Core 2 CD 1 to see if the Ximian Gnome packages on the Red Hat 8 side would prevent the “upgrade.”
Nope. Fedora Core said it would happily upgrade, though it said it noticed Ximian parts.
I rebooted, thinking that when I had more time, then, I’d upgrade.
No go.
GRUB was gone, but that didn’t really matter. Much earlier, neither hda nor hdb were identified on a BIOS level. NOTHING.
KNOPPIX, etc., show me Windows at hda, but NOTHING sees the previous Linux drive.
So my problem: Setup/BIOS does not see either drive. Live Linux CD’s see my Windows drive at hda, but my hdb Linux drive is invisible.
Thoughts?
