Fedora 9 kernel 2.6.26 Nvidia VGA

Hello people,

One of my oldest computers is equipped with a Nvidia FX-5200, which is enough to do some graphics. But after I upgraded to kernel 2.6.26 I have problems with my graphics.

Normally Livna repo has the up-to-date driver within days after Fedora comes with a new kernel.... but not this time....

So do I miss something, with all the problems with the update servers I'm not sure anymore. Some people already told me that I Better switch to Ubuntu....

nVidia does have a "build your own" script available for older cards that you can download and compile by yourself. (I have to do that for my nVidia integrated graphics card on this laptop since the driver in the livna repository -- when I last tried it -- didn't work on the newer 64-bit nVidia cards. A problem similar to yours, but in the opposite "version' direction.)

By the way, livna has a "nvidia-legacy" driver. Perhaps the FX5200 is now in "legacy."

The Nvidia FX-5200 is still supported by the regular driver.

And a few days after my posting Livna had a driver available, still not feels 100% perfect, but at least it works.

I still have problems to get Compiz working again.... Maybe also need a update again..

Livna offers the akmod-nvidia package for F9, which will build new kernel modules for you automatically, so that you don't have to wait. However, the akmod-* system also needs the correct kernel-devel and kernel-headers packages installed in order to build the kmods.
