fedora 8 kernel panic-not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt
 

Ok, to start off, I'm very very new to Linux. This is actually my first Linux OS attempting. I downloaded Fedora 8 and burned the image to a cd. The cd boots, and I select to run the Live Cd. It starts running after a few moments I get this:
kernel panic-not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt

I've googled, yahoo'd, and checked the forums here, and can't find anything.
So if anyone can help, Thanks.

Do you have access to the HD? I don't mean physical access, I mean, "can the computer access it"
The reason I ask is because on a donated server, I get the same thing. I looked in the BIOS, I can't see the HD. It's a donated box.

I agree with Joe. Not sure if one can do this but with the boot cd enter ' linux rescue ' on the boot line. Now it will not find any fedora install but once up enter this command an see what it sees.
/sbin/fdisk -l

Now what would help is this if present in rescue mode is the output of this command. ' /sbin/lspci -v '. If not present thenlook at downloading the cd version of knoppix. Burn to a cd and boot with it. Now run the command ' /sbin/lspci -v ' and see what it shows. If the harddrive is seen by it then the module for it should be loaded in the output of ' /sbin/lsmod '.

Worst case I am guess your machine has a sata controller that yet the kernel supports but the Fedora anaconda installer does not support. There are a few things to try here but first need to verify the system hardware can be seen and linux supported.
