fedora 8 - install
hi guys,
i am getting problems with fedora 8. i have installed fedora 6 and trying to update it to fedora 8. The installation DVD pass the test process without problems; i chose not to change the gru and it starts "checking for dependencies of the software to be installed". In this step, anaconda hungs up for 3 hours :-( ... the progressive bar remains static at 30%. i have tried also the re-installation asking for a new gru, but it tries to create the new gru using a device that not exist anymore ... does it look at an LVM inconsitency ? what can i do ? by the way, do you recomend to install fedora 9 instead of fedora 8 ? thanks in advance, hector pd. i have a 64 bits machine and i am trying to install the fc8 - 386- 32 bits version ... i hope that is not a problem. When i installed fc6, i had problems with the 64 bits version, so i decided to install the 32bits version and it works fine until now. |
I've just updated myself :)
My recommendation is to backup any files you need eg personal docs and do a clean install of F8. Upgrading is notoriously tricky, and usually only done 1 version at a time eg F6 ->7 ->8. F9 has only just come out, so I'd let it stabilize first. Also, go with 32 bit install. A lot of SW is still only avail as that, and you won't really benefit from 64 bit unless you use massive DBs for example. |
hey Chris ... thaks for comments
i was afraid of doing a clean install but it looks it is better. cheers hector |
