Fedora 7 Really Sucks for me!
I have downloaded both the test 3 and test 4 live and install images, and the same thing happens on both of them. I boot up the CD and the VERY FIRST screen shows, and viola! I get no keyboard or mouse control!!!!!!!!! Nothing, it doesn't even start up after 60 seconds like it is supposed to. This exact same situation happened when I went to try Mandriva. NO KEYBOARD, no nothing! My computer is a Dell E510 with latest bios and drivers and everything. I don't have a clue as to why it does this but if anyone else has experienced this problem and has fixed it, please let me know what you have doen to correct this problem. It is very infuriating as i would LOVE to try fedora 7 and test it out. Thanks!

Same problem here, also on a Dell machine (I have not tried Fedora though). I could install every Linux distribution before, but after my bios Update, I could not get any Linux distribution to respond to my keyboard. Not even OpenSUSE which I had previously installed. A possible solution would be to get an older BIOS, or simply wait for a new one from Dell, which is what I am doing...
Interesting enough, OpenSolaris seems to be working. That is, until it tries to detect the video card and crashes miserably. This is my last Dell. I'm very tired of their crappy machines. Finally they got it to look good outside though... but it still stinks!

Sorry to hear that stumpedguy, but it's in the nature of a beta release to be somewhat shaky. If this is issue is affecting others as well, it should be reported as a bug if you want the final version to be any better.
btw, is Fedora 7 the only distro on your computer. If it isn't you could try accessing it from another distro and check out your xorg.conf file, which would account for at least part of the trouble. Or you could use a liveCD that does work.

it's not the x11 problem, it is the actual freezing of the keyboard and mouse that is the problem. it works on my laptop (inspiron e1501 core duo) but not on my dimension E510. it is very strange that it also happened with a Mandriva install cd.

I just wanted to report that my dell is a Dimension 9150, which is similar to yours in many ways (I even think we share the same BIOS). I've just tried installing Xubuntu 7.04 and it is working. It has to be the very first distro I manage to install after updating my bios. Just to let you know in case you want to try something that apparently works in our machines
Note: tried with Kubuntu and Ubuntu. Keyboard did not work. Go figure :S

Have you got ACPI enabled? Sometimes that causes problems...

I could never get Ubuntu working with my omcputer. I went into safe graphics mode but the refresh rate is incompatible with my HD monitor. I get a "not supported resolution." I reread my above posts, and it sounded confusing. After setting for boot from CD, i boot the Fedora 7 LIVE cd and the VERY fISRT screen (load from image, load image to ram, etc) The actual black highlight is a dark dark, dull greay. Neither the mouse or keyboard respond (not even the numlcok button works or ctrl+alt+del) and it doesn't go past that screen. I have successfuly downgraded my BIOS and have gotten it to work. (Thanks Mega Man X!!!)

Nice. Thanks for replying stumpedguy_frustrate. I am sure more peoples will eventually face a similar problem . So it really was the BIOS. I was guessing stuff again ^_^;;. But since everything was working before I flashed the BIOS, it could only be that.
It indeed is a very weird thing though. Anyway, I'm glad you manage to get Linux going.
Best Regards!

well, when I got to the loading screen, I selected the "Run From Image" option and it would load the vmlinuz and stuff and then it would stop at the Ready_ (the _ would stay flashing) and then nothing else. So I then went to try and reinstall GC6 (resized and everything) but KEPT getting the i586 kernel. I updated the BIOS again and got the i686 kernel that I needed. So, I guess it just needs a BIOS update from DELL to get it working. Oh well.
