Fedora 7 Minimum System Requirements.

The subject pretty much sums it up. I have an old (PII I think) that I'm thinking of upgrading to F7. It has lots of disk space (150gb) and 500M of ram. Will Fedora install on this machine?

First off, for an older rig like yours, I'd suggest running a fresh version of F7 vs. an upgrade. To your question, though, you can run graphical mode w/P2 400 & 192MB of RAM. You didn't specify what speed your P2 is. I know I have an old P2 500 that's been a bit quirky, but one in which I've successfully installed relatively newer distros of varying flavors (I test out tons of 'em all the time).

The only problem you *might* encounter is with older video/network cards. G'luck & post back your results or further questions.

Wink

Ive gotten FC7 to work with some issues on a

P2 300mhz with only 160m ram (tho abou 512m swap space)

i installed using network install and it took about a day and a half.

i can run the x windows interfaces gnome, kde and xfse (or some such).

i think im encountering issues mainly with the ancient hardware ive got (bios too old, possible Vid Card issues (onboard) and something ata2.00 but i havent figured out that one yet)

wish i still had my RH8 install disc working it ran much smoother on same machine.

anywho thems my 2 smells.

What interface (Desktop environment, Window Manager or CLI) do you have running on the P2?

I have a P1 w/MMX running at 233Mhz with 128MB Ram and have wondered what else I can install on it.

I've run Da*n Small Linux (DSL), TinyMe and now am running Fluxbuntu on it but I wonder what else will work.

Eventually I hope to get my hands on another laptop so I can possibly reduce this one to a CLI web server or something just for fun.
