Have you tried running any hardware diagnostics? It's always possible that you could have bad memory, bad hard drive, or defective video card. I always check hardware before spending hours resolving a "freezing" issue. You can test the memory with (memtest +), test the hard drive with (drive fitness test), and test the video card with (Sisoft Sandra). These are all free downloads and you can find them by using google.
