Fedora 7 & Java
I recently installed F7T4 and everything seems to be working fine, but now I need to get java plugin working. This is the 32 bit version.
I've tried searching and everything I find on installing java is not working for me and version 7 T4.
Would someone be so kind and help me get java plugin installed with links/details or whatever help you can offer?
Thnx.

For Fedora 7 Test3
The links provided in the last two posts are good referance but make sure to refer to the latest versions of java and install instructions. I followed a similar path in my work to get java to work and here are my notes below.
**************************
16) Getting Java to work http://fedorasolved.org/browser-solutions/java-i386/
a) download from SUN jre-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin
b) ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_01/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
c) /sbin/ldconfig
d) Version of Java is only 6.x on my system so I selected 2
Quote:
[root@wizej tmp]# /usr/sbin/alternatives --config java
There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
* 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
+ 2 /opt/jre1.6.0_01/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 2

e) Test via http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Thanks for the replies. I now have java installed. One problem I am seeing using it is, My girlfriend likes to play yahoo bingo online(java based) and I tested it but keeps getting error message about 'Error logging into the server'.
Using Debian I don't have this problem and with Fedora 7, SELinux is disabled.
Any suggestions on fixing this? Can someone try it and see what happens?
Thnx.

I have same error with Fedora Core 6, SELinux enabled. I know it used to work, the only two differences between the last time I played a Yahoo game and now are:
1) Now I have Java 6 (1.6), before I had Java 5 (1.5)
2) Yahoo keeps messing with their site, making it more 'heavy' and less navigable.
If it doesn't work with Java 5, I'd blame Yahoo.
By the way, if you install the SELinux Troubleshooter package (setroubleshoot) then SELinux will do you the courtesy of telling you if it stops something from happening, and inform you how to work around it.

Well it seems, I didn't get yahoo games to work but my girlfriend was able to sign in and get it working. Not sure what she did but she is playing bingo.
Thnx.
