Fedora 5 / resolution problem
 
Hi!

I bought a new ViewSonic VA2012w 20" display. I used to have Windows XP, but now I have change to use Linux (Fedora Core 5) and I just Dont know how to change resolution.

I try to change my resolution to: 1680x1050

If I change my resolution from here: System->Administration->Display->1680x1050 and restarting computer
Nothing happens. And If I try to change my resolution here: System->Preferences->Screen resolution: The highest resolution is: 1024x768 So I cant change it here.

I just dont know what to do. Please help me...

Go back to System->Administration->Display.

On the Hardware tab, click on Configure next to the "Monitor type". From the list, select Generic LCD, 1680x1050. Click OK.

On the Settings tab, make sure the resolution is 1680x1050. Click OK to close the dialog.

Logoff. When you see the login screen, press Ctrl-Alt-Bksp to restart the X server. When the X server has restarted and the login screen is redisplayed, it should be at the correct resolution.

Post your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log'.

Hi,

I had the same problem with Dell flat screen. You need to play with three things in the monitor setup:

1. screen resolution
2. Hardware: type of monitor
3. Hardware: type of graphic cards

You can find all these settings in the System -> Administration -> Display.

Do not forget to log off after each change and log in back for the changes to take into effect.

Please let me know if it helps.

I have the problem fixed on my Dell and the screen has nice anc crystal clear image with good looking fonts (no ugly big icons any more):)
