Fedora 5 - librpmdb-4.4.so problems

I'm working with Fedora 5 on a Dell Latitude D610. Install went great, sound works, video works, but I appear to be in missing library hell. I go to install an rpm, and it says this libary is missing. Being partial to Debian & apt-get, I go to install the apt rpm. It initially list several libraries missing, which I've installed, or made symbolic links to other files. But when it comes to librpmdb-4.4.so, nothing works. I get an rpm that says in contains librpmdb-4.4.so, go to install it, and I get an "error while loading shared librariies: librpmdb-4.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I'm ready to give up on Fedora & try a different distro. HELP!!

That was among the rpm's I tried loading. Kept getting the "error while loading shared libraries: librpmdb-4.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

I've given up on Fedora - moved on to Ubuntu. Works like a charm - plus you get apt-get.

Thanks for the suggestion, but . . .
