Fedora 5 - hangs in spots, have to shutdown laptop...
 

Okay - I'm a converted Linux person and love it...however the laptop (EMachine M5405) will lock up at times and I have to hold down on the power button and just reboot. It's configured as a dual boot with Win XP so I can run a few programs that I haven't found on linux.

Places where it locks up:

1) During boot up, it seems to hang after the statement with Swap Space.
2) Sometimes it locks at any place - nothing particular of running a single program, it just happens here and there.
3) When I go away for a while and come back and it's locked up with the hard drive light on.

If there are logs that I could look at, where are they located?

If anyone needs more info, please let me know what information you want and how to get it - I might know how to get it, but just in case I don't :-)

I have similar hangs when it goes into lock mode (blank screen, system running) and when just "any place" as you have outlined in items 2 and 3. I posted them in a different thread... Sounds like there are stability issues to me. Mine is running on an IBM ThinkCentre.
