Fedora 3 install on HP Pavilion 753n

Hi all,

I am having a problem installing Fedora Core 3 on an HP Pavilion 753n. The problem seems to be with the ATA controler. The install fails when probing the hard drive, claiming that it can not read from /dev/hda "Input/output error during read on /dev/hda". I cancel this error and move into partionioning. At the point where it wants to reset the partition table because it claims that the partition table is invalid, I get a write error and the installer exits.

A couple of points:

1. The install media is fine, passes all the checks and the md5 sum is good.

2. The disk is good, as it contains a valid and bootable RH 9 installation.

3. The jumper settings are set to master and it is the only hd on the channel.

This is really strange, and it would be nice to get it cleared up. So be a hero!

Thanks,

Shane

Problem with samsung drive?

It seems that the problem I listed above was not with the ATA controler at all, as the same thing happens when I used common promice Ide controller. Again, the Redhat install boots fine, but the Fedora installer does not play nice. Could it be a problem with my Samsung drive?
