Fedora 14 system crashes

Well, turns out that when I rebooted into the installed system a user setup utility launched, but now whenever I try to log in as me, X crashes and GDM starts up again, telling me to relog in.

Now it's the case of "A setup utility launches and I set up my user, only to try to log in and get kicked in the face by GDM, having done all that work for nothing".

All I can suggest is changing the passwd for that local user and if you still have problems; checking the gdm and X logs for errors.

this is not all that surprising seeing a fedora 14 has NOT been released to the public and is STILL in Alpha

i would have been surprised IF it worked

you do relies that you should NEVER use the "rawhide" ( the NEXT version of fedora ) UNLESS you DO already know HOW to fix these "bugs" from the not yet finished version , and are activity submitting bug reports AND fixes

I can only confirm this bug still exists in F14 Beta. I upgraded from F13 using preupgrade. X.org logs don't report any errors, gdm logs report fatal error about X.org already running, but I think this is because gdm crashes and tries to rerun X...

On the other hand booting in runlevel 3, logging in text mode and doing startx works well (so it is makes it less likely to be X.org problem)

Other workaround is to switch display manager to something else. If you have KDE and system-switch-displaymanager installed you can run "system-switch-displaymanager KDM". Worked for me.

Any proper solutions?
